SCHOA is a business organization representing 854 homes of the Shipley’s Choice community. SCHOA works to preserve homeownership value through upkeep of common areas as well as covenants enforcement.
SCHOA is a self-managed non-stock Maryland Corporation with a mandatory membership of 854 homes. It’s Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions are for the purpose of protecting the value and desirability of the homes and common areas. Per MD law, new homeowners are provided a “Resale Packet” containing governing documents and important community information.
The community has two Homeowners’ Associations
Shipley’s Choice is a family-oriented community of primarily two-story, single-family homes with two-car garages, situated on quarter acre lots. It is located in Anne Arundel (AA) County in the Greater Severna Park area and it is nestled in the suburbs between Washington DC and Baltimore. It is located about 10 miles north of Annapolis, MD, which is the United States’ sail-boat capital, the seat of Maryland state government and home to the United States Naval Academy and St. John’s College. SCHOA is on the western edge of Severna Park and feeds into the top ranked Shipley’s Choice Elementary School, Severna Park Middle School and Severna Park High School.
Local roads provide convenient access to Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington DC. It is located 1½ miles from exit 10 off interstate 97, is 17 miles from Baltimore, 34 miles from Washington DC, and 8 miles from Thurgood Marshall Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport. Available transportation includes BWI Airport, the AMTRAK train station, a light-rail train to Baltimore, and access to the interstate highway system to Western Maryland, Pennsylvania and the Ocean City and Delaware beaches. There is boating access to the Chesapeake Bay and Severn River.
The Shipley’s Choice Elementary school and the Shipley’s Choice Swim and Tennis Club (SCS&TC) are within walking distance. There are several community flower gardens, sitting benches, a Tot-Lot and two “Little Libraries.” Anne Arundel County provides street repairs and snow and trash removal.
SCHOA provides many “good neighbor” opportunities for its residents to participate in keeping Shipley’s Choice a great community. Upkeep of residents’ homes is encouraged and there is an annual clean-up event for the communities’ common grounds.
There are multiple opportunities for residents to join service organizations. The community is within the drawing area of the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association (GCPAA) sports leagues and teams.
